Common questions
Do you do residential structural steel, or commercial too?
Residential is our focus right now: beams, posts, columns and connections in custom homes and remodels. That is the work we are set up for and the work we do best.
Do you work from an engineer's drawings?
Yes, and we prefer to. We fabricate from stamped structural drawings and coordinate connection details with the engineer and the GC before anything is cut. Where a detail is impractical to build or install in the actual space, we flag it early rather than discovering it on site with a crane waiting.
Why hire a fabricator who also does finish metal?
Because on a custom home the structural steel and the visible steel usually meet. A beam that carries the great room often lands next to the railing or the floating stair we are also building. Having one shop scan, model, cut and install both means the connection between them is designed rather than reconciled on site.
How long does structural steel take?
Steel lead time runs 1 to 2 weeks, and most projects run 4 to 8 weeks from deposit to install. Structural work is usually driven by the build schedule rather than by our shop, so tell us the framing date and we will work backward from it.
How do you make sure the steel fits the opening?
We 3D-scan the site with a Trimble X9 and cut on a Bodor fiber laser, so parts are cut against a measurement of the space as it was actually framed rather than as it was drawn. On structural work that matters more than anywhere else, because a beam that is a half inch off is a very expensive afternoon.
